Modules in our Independent Program

Overview

We all want the best for our kids. Research has shown that children who learn to swim at a young age reach many early childhood developmental milestones earlier than the norm. This includes not just swimming capability, but literacy, numeracy, social and emotional measures as well. This makes swimming lessons for kids and toddlers an excellent way to give your child the greatest opportunity to thrive in life. At Kingswim we understand this, which is why we believe in the importance of starting young with swimming lessons for your little one!

Our Independent program is a beginner swimming program for swimmers over three years or kids who are new to swimming. We offer an incredible environment for kids swimming classes. You can expect a relaxed atmosphere with lessons delivered by specially trained swim teachers. We understand how children can develop their capabilities in the water and know exactly when to reassure and when to extend students. With our expertise, your child can experience amazing results!

During the Independent program, your child can also expect to take part in dedicated survival weeks. You can be confident that your child is learning all the skills they need to be safe and confident around the water in our swimming lessons. Every element of our children’s swimming program has been specifically designed with your kids’ learning in mind.

We teach children to swim in shallow water because it offers many benefits to young swimmers, families and swim teachers. The recommended depth for a shallow water pool is approximately five feet. This allows for practicing skills like turning over in the water, flipping to breathe and floating up. Deep water is not a requirement for these basic swim skills.

Each stage of the Kingswim program from Independent to Graduate is divided into a series of stages known as K Levels. These K Levels have been specially developed to ensure children learn the skills they need to be confident and safe in and around the water.

The Independent K Levels develop the building blocks for safety and technique as children grow in confidence and in turn become more capable.

Kingswim is a dedicated swim school made for families. Our team has put effort into making learning to swim easy, with 21 centers across the country offering kids swimming lessons.

Common Questions

What’s it like at Kingswim?  answer-icon

We love teaching babies and kids to swim! So as soon as you arrive at Kingswim, you’ll be able to see that this is exactly what we are set up to do. We have experienced and helpful team members, family friendly change rooms and facilities, and purpose built pools designed specifically for learning to swim. We even have graded pool depths and lane lengths to cater to different levels in the learning journey. There are no distractions like waterslides, wave pools or water-playgrounds…. just enjoyable and engaging lessons that make learning fun!

We pride ourselves on delivering a comfortable and enjoyable experience for the whole family. It’s the little things we do both in and out of the water that make all the difference.

Can we see what your swimming lessons are like before we enrol?answer-icon

Better again…we offer a free introductory lesson! It’s a great way to find out more about us, and for us to get to know your child. After the trial lesson, one of our friendly supervisors will talk to you about which level is best suited to your child’s abilities. They’ll also be able to answer any other questions you may have about our program.

Who is the best teacher for my child’s swimming lessons?answer-icon

At Kingswim, all teachers teach to the same swimming lesson plan. This means that your child will be taught consistently, no matter which teacher they have. We have small swimmer to teacher ratios, which means each child will be given close attention and guidance in any given class.

What should I bring to Independent swimming lessons?answer-icon

Kids in the Independent levels will need swimwear, a towel and dry clothes to change into at the end of the lesson.  We don’t recommend goggles until after a child has completed our independent levels, as we have found that some kids can become reliant on them.

Independent Swimming Lessons FAQs

Swimming lessons for toddlers are a fantastic way to introduce your child to the water. Before the age of around four years, swimming lessons focus on making sure your child feels comfortable in the water and introducing them to basic swimming techniques.

Our Independent program is ideal for toddlers who are ready to be in the pool without Mum or Dad. The lessons will help your child feel happy and confident in the water, ready for learning more complex swimming techniques when they’re a little older.

We sure do! Our Fast Track holiday program is an intensive burst of daily lessons held for four days in the school holidays. It’s a fun and healthy activity, and a great way to get some extra practice or experience the Kingswim program for the first time.

We recommend regular weekly lessons. As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect! Children will always benefit more from learning in a regular and continuous way.

Sometimes a child needs a little extra help – and that’s perfectly ok! If your child needs some extra help to reach the next level, we offer a learning guarantee to ensure that their progress stays on track.

Swimming lessons for toddlers vary in price depending on the swim school you choose. So that we can give you our current prices, it’s always best to give us a call.

We also offer a free introductory lesson for our Independent program, so you can make sure Kingswim is right for you and your child.
