Swimming Teacher Job FAQ’s

I don’t currently hold a swim teaching qualification – can I apply?  answer-icon

Yes! We take the hassle out of training to make your transition into Swim Teaching as smooth as possible. Unlike other training providers, Kingswim provides in-house training at a lower cost than other registered training providers that includes:

  • A two-day learn to swim training program, facilitated by Kingswim staff and accredited by Swim Australia.
  • You’ll get hands-on experience during your 20 shadow hours with one of our friendly qualified Swimming Teachers.
  • And we’ll teach you the proven Kingswim method, so you can begin your Swim Teaching career with confidence!

The completion of the course and subsequent accumulative training hours will result in a nationally- and internationally-recognised Swim Australia qualification.

I already have a swim teaching qualification – can I start straight away?answer-icon

Suitable candidates who already hold a valid swim teaching qualification will still be required to attend the Kingswim training program, but at no cost to the candidate. You’ll do some shadow hours and be signed off as a Kingswim teacher.

What’s the process when I apply for a job?answer-icon

If you’re shortlisted for a swim teaching role, you will be invited to a face-to-face interview conducted by the Centre Management team with the assistance of other centre staff. If you progress further, you will be required to submit information and documentation as part of an external background check. If your police, working rights and reference checks come back clear, you will receive an invitation to our Kingswim training.

The two-day intensive Kingswim training program (affectionately referred to as “Boot Camp”) is an important step for all Kingswim teachers, regardless of whether you already hold a swim teaching qualification or not. At this training, you will learn the Kingswim method of learn-to-swim teaching.

Before, during and after this training, you will also be required to complete 20 hours of cumulative training (under the supervision of an experienced swim teacher) to be signed off as ‘ready to teach’ and to receive your qualification. Our Centre Managers are experts in the accreditation process and can guide you through every step of the journey to receive your qualification.

Can I apply for roles or teach at multiple Kingswim centres?answer-icon

Yes, you can apply for a role and teach at more than one Kingswim centre but for the purposes of recruitment only one centre will manage the process of interviewing, training and on boarding.

What type of shifts are available?answer-icon

Kingswim programs primarily run at the following times:

  • Weekday morning shifts (which can run anywhere from 8:30am until 12pm)
  • Weekday afternoon shifts (which can run anywhere from 3:30pm until 7:30pm)
  • Weekend morning shifts (which can run anywhere from 7:30am until 1:00pm)

While many of our centres run through the week, some Kingswim centres have restricted programs during the week. Seasonal opportunities also exist to assist with school swimming during the day.

In-water shifts are no longer than 4.5 hours as we understand that working for long periods in the water can take its toll.

How old do I have to be to become a Swim Teacher?answer-icon

Swim teachers need to be 16 years of age to safely undertake training and work at Kingswim.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to teach?answer-icon

You don’t need to be an elite or strong swimmer to teach at Kingswim. What matters is that you have a passion for working with and developing children and that you’re comfortable being in the water.

At Kingswim, you’ll get all the training you need. You’ll learn how to confidently and safely deliver a variety of kids swimming lessons, from baby swimming classes to advanced lessons for our future superstars.

What Others are Saying

We had an amazing time at our first bub swim session, Lucas luved the water and I was really amazed at all the new things I learnt about how to hold your bub, so that they are able to become more familiar in the water and kick their legs. Loved it!!!

Gail

I have taken my son to their Baby Play lessons. These are fantastic at giving the babies a chance to experience and familiarise them with the pool environment. I would recommend them to everyone with young babies.

Kristy

I have attended other pools and have left frustrated at how hard they seem to make it for people with bubs. Not at Kingswim though! I always leave happy.

Mel

We have been taking our 9 month old to swimming lessons at Kingswim and have found the small class sizes and professional teachers to be great. The whole centre, including the change rooms is kept toasty warm so that the littlies don’t get cold when they are out of the water.
