As we prepare to open our new Kingswim centre in Epping, we sat down with our Centre Manager, Kelly Poulter, to get to know her a bit more.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
My name is Kelly and I became a swim teacher over 25 years ago. Since then, I have advanced in my career and been in senior management positions for the past 10 years. I’m so excited to join the Kingswim team and continue my journey here.
I have a passion for working with young people – they keep me on my toes! I enjoy helping them develop their skills, in and out of the water and watching them grow with kids swimming lessons.
What started your passion for swim teaching?
My passion for swimming started at an early age. After working as a lifeguard in my late teenage years, I quickly realised how important it is for people to learn how to swim. With the support of my manager, I completed my AUSTSWIM accreditation and kick-started my career in the aquatics industry.
Many kids aren’t immediately comfortable in the water, but I enjoy taking it one step at a time and supporting them on their journey from first getting their head under the water to eventually becoming competent swimmers.
How do you feel about embarking on a new journey as Centre Manager at Kingswim Epping?
I’m ecstatic to take on this new role at Kingswim Epping. Being from the area, I’m so excited to support my local community through their swimming lesson journey from baby swimming lessons to advance swimming lessons.
I live only 10 minutes down the road, and watching the construction of the centre has been a very exciting process. I believe my knowledge and experience in the local area will come in handy to promote the importance of water safety in the community as I have good relationships with council partners, nearby schools and community members.
Why did you decide to join Kingswim?
I joined Kingswim because I believe in their structured program which makes it easy for parents to keep track of their child’s progress and celebrate their wins – be it getting their head underwater, blowing bubbles, or swimming a full lap of breaststroke.
Kingswim also focuses on the little things to make sure families always feel supported. Our Epping centre will be purpose-built to do just that with lots of space for children and prams, family change rooms, complimentary baby products, as well as a clean and bright environment the whole family can enjoy.
What is one tip you would give to a parent whose child is starting their swim lesson journey?
Ask as many questions as you can, don’t be afraid, and encourage your child to always give 110 percent. Your child will only get as much out of swim lessons as they put in and when they are happy, you will be too!
