Benefits of Baby Play

FEB 28 2019

For many, swimming lessons can be the first activity you and your new baby can do together. It’s not only a great bonding experience, but also very beneficial. A recent study by Griffith University showed evidence that swimming in early years helps children to reach developmental milestones sooner than those who do not participate in swimming lessons.

Baby Play offers your little one a heightened, multi-sensory stimulation, involving touch, hearing, sight, taste and smell. We aim to strengthen babies and consolidate their early swimming reflexes into conscious movements of legs and arms in the water.

Babies can exercise more muscles in the weightless water environment, as they are not restricted by their capacity to sit or stand up. Zero gravity will allow freedoms that do not exist on dry land.  The emphasis to “Baby Play” is therefore on encouraging free movement in water that is conducive to swimming at such time when parents and babies are both physically and emotionally ready.

The idea of trying to get out of the house with a tiny tot can be daunting, let alone trying to be on time for a swimming lesson!  That’s why our Baby Play classes are flexible. Don’t worry if you’re a bit late or if the wheels fall off and you decide you need to leave early. Baby Play is all about introducing your little person to the nice warm water in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Baby Play is available at all Kingswim Centres
